The band has been through several name changes over the years since it started, including "Shale", "Society Linen", and the current name, Aerial Roots. This is actually the name of the Electric Soft Parade's UK fan site, although we are using it because it is cool rather than to link us to the ESP who are shit anyway no they're not.
The band started when Ed and Oli, friends at the Nottingham High School, decided that they wanted to start one in September 2001. They played as a two piece for a while, doing a couple of recordings on four track, before Ed's sister Harriet joined on drums. Following a discussion about guitarists in West Bridgford with Edward Taylor (see the sleevenotes) Jonathan was introduced to the band, and joined shortly after. Oliver Senior joined after Ed Pulford left in October 2003, having known Oliver Kinsey-Smith from the NYO. Oliver Senior left in March 2004, after which the much missed Ed Pulford returned.
Actually, we the band drew them ourselves, we each drew one of another band member. For extra credit, see if you can guess who drew who.
Beats me just rest assured that we're glad he did.
